President's Message

Greetings from the Pearls of the South Bay!
Since the chartering of our chapter in 1990, Sigma Pi Omega has been dedicated to serving the City of Torrance, the surrounding South Bay communities, the Southern California cluster, and the Far Western Region.
Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated® was founded in 1908 at Howard University in Washington, D.C. Our legacy started with nine Black collegiate women, only one generation removed from the time of enslavement. At that time, fewer than 1,000 African Americans were enrolled in college. Their vision and leadership set the foundation for generations of service and impact across the globe. Over the years, we've become the leading voice in service and social action, working toward our collective mission to be of "Service to All Mankind."
Under the leadership of our International President, Danette Anthony Reed, and Far Western Regional Director, Nichole Starr Jordan, we embrace the theme: “Soaring to Greater Heights of Service and Sisterhood.”
As President of this chapter, it is my honor to serve and lead us forward. Sigma Pi Omega may be small, but we are mighty, rising to meet today’s challenges and opportunities as sisters making meaningful impact, and with an unwavering commitment to our community.
Thank you for visiting our website!
With appreciation,
Dr. Magaela Bethune
